Faith Flip
One of the parts I enjoy about being with the sister missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, is an activity they call a "faith flip". When we are visiting with people and there is not a lot of time, they will invite people to do a faith flip with them. A faith flip consists of flipping through the pages of scripture until the person says to stop. Then the person chooses left or right (pages), left or right (column) and number in a set of verses.
This morning, I chose to look at the MSN news feed. Some of it reported on the persons who lost their lives and children at the Mystic Camp on July 4th due to the Guadelupe River flash flood in Texas. Other reports were of hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, etc that really can weigh heavily on my heart. I was told that I would see and recognize the signs of the times before His 2nd coming, which are coming so rapidly, not even succession at this point. The world really is in an upheaval, just about everywhere.
While in the Celestial room in the Spokane LDS Temple today, I did my own faith flip. Ecclesiastes 7:10
10 Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
It reminded me of how my friends, and I sometimes look back our lives and miss the "simpler times" in our youth and early marriage. I considered areas in my life where I acted wisely, where I have not, and where I would like to develop more wisdom. Looking forward is more productive than looking backward.
Tonight, the sister missionaries and I ate together at Subway and had a faith flip. Alma 34:2. In context, these are the words of Amulek teaching and testifying after his companion, Alma, completed his teaching. Alma and Amulek were prophets of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Book of Mormon.
2 My brethren, I think that it is impossible that ye should be ignorant of the things which have been spoken concerning the coming of Christ, who is taught by us to be the Son of God; yea, I know that these things were taught unto you bountifully before your dissension from among us.
We talked about the urgency expressed by President Russell M Nelson. He felt the Lord was urging him to urge us to draw nearer to Christ in preparation for the days to come. This evening's faith flip reminded me, that I have been taught bountifully. Not only what to expect, but also how to prepare, temporally and spiritually, and to trust in the Lord. We receive counsel frequently at General Conferences and other addresses, to help us prepare. To implement what I have bountifully received is wisdom for my day.
