Childhood

Today we opened the sugar pumpkins we had for Halloween and scrapped out the guts.  The shells were roasted in our oven and mashed into pumpkin pie filling.  It was a long process but it was fun to squish our fingers into the stringy pulp to sort out the seeds.  Afterward Adelie molded the remains into shapes and we guessed what the shapes were.

Tonight we had Family Home Evening on James 1: 19 and James 3:2-6.

As I read a story, we put cloves into an orange and commented on the changes cloves cause when "speared" into an orange. Words are like cloves in an orange. They pierce the inner soul and leave a fragrance even when the cloves are removed.  We need to be slow to respond to fierce piercing words of others and to be kind in what we say and do. When we err, the Savior can make us and others whole again - it's like a brand new orange.

The story I apadpted for our family came from the following website:

Oranges with cloves bring back great childhood memories of the 1960's.
